Deniz Akalın is a firm Partner and Head of the firm’s Intellectual Property department. She advises local and foreign clients on upholding and enforcing their intellectual property rights before the Turkish Trademark and Patent Office, and she guides companies on the protection and enforcement of their intellectual property portfolios. She has also widened her expertise in strategic management, valuation, monetisation of trademarks after she completed her MA degree in Marketing Communication.
Ms Akalın has extensive experience in dealing with IP infringements and defending intellectual property rights before regulatory bodies and the courts. She advises clients on how to file and respond to intellectual property claims, and she knows how to guide clients through the entire dispute process, from pre-trial mediation to settlement.
Additionally, Ms Akalın can effectively guide clients through the IP aspects of transactional matters including licensing deals, technology transfers and mergers and acquisitions.
Ms Akalın also has substantial consumer law experience. She regularly works with companies on advertising and compliance matters for products in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, food & beverage and medical devices.
Before joining the firm, Ms Akalın served as legal counsel to a leading Turkish patent company, and she served as partner and legal advisor in a well-established Turkish IT and IT law firm. She is a registered Trademark Attorney more than fifteen years and a member of the Istanbul Bar Association.
